About Julie Ahmad
I’ve always been interested in art and enjoyed being creative as long as I can remember. I grew up in a small town in Connecticut and was fortunate enough to have the experience of living in New York City for several years. Successfully co-habitating amongst those in the urban jungle was an education in it’s self worthy of a degree.
Being exposed to some of the finest architecture and design show cased in both residential & commercial buildings, restaurants, hotels and boutiques was influential to say the least. There was something incredibly alluring to me about the effect a piece of art had on the interior of a space.
In some cases a grand center piece and in other’s a supporting role to provide the proper back drop to tie it all together. Being visually detail oriented, I enjoy taking in as much eye candy as possible!
After moving to South Central Austin, the place I so proudly call home, I began to get really excited about creating abstract paintings during my pregnancy with my daughter Aaliyah. Physiologically there must have been some kind of correlation between what was happening internally and this burning desire to create. I was so curious to explore what it would be like to "color outside the lines.” With abstract art you make up the rules as you go...there is no wrong or right and this feels incredibly liberating to me.
It fascinates me to see how different each piece turns out when they start from the same collection of paints creating their own unique journey. Each painting takes on a life of it’s own as one layer influences the next.
